Foreign Policy

Foreign policy is most important for the government. Foreign policy includes Diplomacy, Military and security policy, international human rights policies, economic policies and Environmental policy. Main purpose of foreign policy is to provide Americans safety and prosperity of the world. Foreign policy affects every American other countries. The president is the one who handle the foreign policy. When making foreign treaties it takes 2/3 votes of senators to ratify the treaty. The president rely mostly on executive power to make foreign treaties.

When making foreign treaties the first priority is the security, then economic growth, lastly the environmental. The United states has one of the highest rates of global warming gas emission. Making treaties with other nation foreign policies take steps toward improving the global environment. In terms of economic progression, US trade with different countries. The president makes trade deals in way that will better serve for the economy. Foreign policy is very integral part of the government.

Meme Assignment

When we think about who is the most powerful individual in the world, without hesitation we know that the US president is the most powerful one. No other countries president holds as much power as the president of United States does. The power of the president increased over the years. The presidents power to give executive orders and commander in chief of the army, navy and air force are two greatest weapons. This makes the president most fearful individual. Nobody would want to mess with Mr. President knowing that he controls the strongest army in the world and so much more within and outside the United States boundary.

The president is in the executive branch of the govt. In the constitution, Article ii cited the executive power, which will be given to the president. Section two of article ii granted the military power to the president. It means the president has the power to use the military whenever he wants. This power specifically given to the president so that during any emergency the president can deploy militaries as quickly as possible without needing any approval from congress. However, the president can’t declare war, only congress can declare war. Ironically over the decades the US presidents sent troops to different continents without the congressional consent. In conflict with Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan the congress never declared a war yet the presidents sent US troops in multiple battlegrounds. The bottom line is when somebody possesses such a mighty army of United States it’s hard not to use it.

Congress makes the law in united states. The presidents job is to enforce these laws. The president can propose a bill, but only congress can pass the bill and make it a law. Likewise, President can veto any bill approved by congress. The president has the power to impose executive orders. An executive order is independent from congressional debate. When congress couldn’t come up with a decision, then the president can give an executive order. The power of executive order very useful for a president in times of crisis. As example, Ongoing corona virus pandemic brought disaster to our economy and people life. So many people lost their lives, more than 20% working people out of jobs due to pandemic. The govt issued a immediate emergency funds to unemployed peoples and business companies but a second round of aid was necessary as the pandemic spreads really quickly. The congress were unable to agree to a bill on time, so by the presidents executive order we received a financial aid which was crucial to fight this pandemic. Executive order is very important in emergency situations.

The presidents power expands even more. The president can assign the supreme court judges, fill up the vacancies, make treaties along with senators, choose ambassadors etc. As long as a president follows the constitution he can hold all these power. In case a president do something unconstitutional, congress can impeach the president to remove him from the office. Impeaching a presidents requires majority votes of congress parties on behalf of impeachment. So, no matter how strongest a president can be the congress can replace a president with another.

Donald J. Trump on my meme represents the presidents of the United States. His facial expression in the pictures shows his confidence and his power. As a president of the US he can use his armed force anytime he feels is necessary. He can make any foreign treaties and take actions to boost our economy and safety of the nation. What my meme saying is that, The president is the most powerful and influencing person in the world and it is fools idea to take on a president.

Week 9: Political participation

Voting for presidency is the most common and very important political participation. To vote for a president we need to register for votes. Voting registration often is very easy. Some states offer same day registration. Meaning citizens can register and vote on the election day. There is also online voter registration. The more easier it is to register for vote its better for states. More registration means more voter turnout. In the US lesser than 70% of population participates in voting. A majorities of immigrants are not eligible to vote, because they are not citizen. Being able to vote is a big deal. It makes a big difference in deciding nations powerful leader.

I missed the opportunity to vote this year 2020. I have not applied for citizenship yet. But definitely I will vote in 2024 election I hope. None my family members voted either. There are so many others like me who were very excited about this years election but could not vote because they are newly came migrants not have citizenship status.

Another form of political participation is Direct democracy. Direct democracy allows states citizens to take matter in hands in the government legislature and policies. In direct democracy citizens can approve or disapprove the government laws. Direct democracy can also remove politicians from office. One disadvantage of direct democracy is wealthy powerful people can reform laws in their favors.

Week 8 (The judicial branch) part 2

In the constitution article iii is where the judicial branch is stated. The purpose of the judicial branch is mainly to protect constitutional rights. The judicial branch can’t perform any political influence in the supreme court. The supreme court is neutral. Supreme court interprets a law, reviews a law to justify if it is constitutional. The supreme court decides not for just one specific states but all the states.

The justice of the supreme court is appointed by the president. Justices of the court serve for lifetimes. Currently there are 9 supreme court justices, one chief justice and eight associate justice. They all mixed with different races and cultures. The US supreme court is one of the best Justice court in the world. It’s not corrupted. Provides everyone fair treatment. We can all rely on supreme courts ruling. Whatever they decides is based upon every citizens best wishes. We should thank the framers for creating such balanced govt.

Week 8, The Judiciary Branch

Third branch of the national govt is judiciary branch, which is the supreme court. The supreme court defends the constitution and peoples right. Supreme court also checks the congress and executive branch. The judiciary system offers dual court system. There we have state level court and supreme court at the top level. Cases are brought up to supreme court when states court are exhausted to the case. When ruling case at the supreme court judges has to consider multiple factor. A large numbers of important individuals plays major roles during a supreme court hearing.

State level jurisdiction may vary states to states. That’s because states have different interests in different things related to its citizens. But supreme court decision is the final. Supreme court holds the judicial review power. That means the supreme court can declare a law is unconstitutional. In the constitution not much power was given to supreme court. But as time passes supreme court evolves its power.

The judiciary branch a little bit tricky sometimes. To review a case at the supreme court it has to get approved by 9 judges first, and there is so much more procedures to successfully review a case in supreme court. The judiciary branch is like a safety net of our govt. Just in case anything goes the supreme court is our safeguard.

Week 7 ( The President ) Self reflection

As our nation is heated up with 2020 election is year, Covid 19 still spreading and taking lives all over the country. This years presidential election is very exciting one. After Joe Biden wins the election With over 290 electoral votes, President trump still refuses the lost. We are experiencing a very historic moment. The corona virus on the other hand is reluctant to go. So far the US govt still could not cu virus. Its getting worse and worse. In this difficult time all we can do is protect ourselves by all means and pray to our lord.

My blog posts are going well. In the beginning I was so far behind. Then I started working as I was supposed to be doing. Sometime its hard for me to do lots assignment together, But flexibility of this online course gave me more time to work on projects. As of now I have two more blog posts two cover up. I will do them by this week. My next plan is to do the meme assignment.

I like the way our class posting their works on this cuny website. This blog process in my opinion is very helpful. We can read each others thought, Find our missing works. Most importantly we learn better this way. Before I write my blog I watch crush coarse video of that topic, then read the online book.

Week 7 (The executive branch – The President)

The president of the US is the most powerful person in the country. President also refer to as chief executive. The constitution gave president the power to control nations military. Over the years Presidents military power expanded a lot. In so many foreign conflicts US the president sent militaries overseas without the consent of congress. The presidents superpower is the war power since he controls the military.

A president can serve two four-year terms maximum. Presidential election done by electoral vote. When a candidate gets 270 electoral votes wins the election. Beside the military power, a president can deal treaties with foreign leaders. President can propose bills to congress. President can also veto any congressional law. He can appoint federal judges and supreme court judges. The president can give executive order. This order don’t need to be debated by congress.

Although presidents seems very powerful, he can be impeached by 2/3 votes of the house. Presidents power is checked by two branches. Even though presidents power is limited that’s because framers did not want any powerful king or monarchy, still US president has enough power in hand to keep everything in check and influence in foreign affairs.

Week 6 ( The Legislative Branch) Part 2

When I picture The Legislative Branch as a whole, I find that the congress are the parent of the executive branch ( the president ). Its because congress very much influences the other two branches. Congress regulates money, so our economy depends totally on how congress will spend its annual revenue. Congress has the power to kick the president out of the white house. Just a like a parent punishes their child for doing something wrong. It can also declare war against other countries, power to manipulate foreign treaties etc.

The two party of congress are the senate and house of representatives. A senator can serve as long six years, whereas house representor serve shorter term of two years. When a bill is introduced it is debated by the legislature lower committee. Then that bill goes to first chamber where it is again discussed. If the first chamber passes the bill it goes to second chamber. When both member passes the bill, that bill become two different bills. Now it is in the hands of both chambers, if majority officials agrees, that bill receives its legitimacy. This is how the legislature process is done.

The bicameral legislature is very important for our government. Any law is passed by the congress verily debated and thoroughly processed. Every state equally proceeds to congress made law. No states can’t disapprove what congress says. It is the power constitution granted to congress. The congress is the brain of America.

Week Six, The legislative branch.

The congress is the first of three branches of the govt. The framers of the constitution made congress the strongest of all. The congress also called the legislative branch. The job of legislative branch is to pass laws. The US congress is Bicameral legislature. It has two part, the senate and the house of representatives. The senate consists of 100 senators (two from every states). The house of representatives determined by the population each states have, as of now there are 435 representors for all 50 states together.

The congress carries power divided by three. The enumerated power, Power of congress that is stated in the constitution. The implied power, The power that is not specified rather it is needed to neutralize obstacles. The inherent powers exists as long as country exist. These powers gave congress a huge controls over the states and foreign policies. The congress can collect taxes, make money, distribute money, create budget. It can handle interstate and intrastate matters. In a sentence congress’s power is very expanded. There is no doubt that it is the powerful branch of the federal government.
