Week 7 (The executive branch – The President)

The president of the US is the most powerful person in the country. President also refer to as chief executive. The constitution gave president the power to control nations military. Over the years Presidents military power expanded a lot. In so many foreign conflicts US the president sent militaries overseas without the consent of congress. The presidents superpower is the war power since he controls the military.

A president can serve two four-year terms maximum. Presidential election done by electoral vote. When a candidate gets 270 electoral votes wins the election. Beside the military power, a president can deal treaties with foreign leaders. President can propose bills to congress. President can also veto any congressional law. He can appoint federal judges and supreme court judges. The president can give executive order. This order don’t need to be debated by congress.

Although presidents seems very powerful, he can be impeached by 2/3 votes of the house. Presidents power is checked by two branches. Even though presidents power is limited that’s because framers did not want any powerful king or monarchy, still US president has enough power in hand to keep everything in check and influence in foreign affairs.
